Sports fans’ changing demands drive strategic shift at TVA Sports

Montreal, October 23, 2020 – TVA Sports, ever responsive to sports fans’ changing demands, today announced a strategic shift based on the fan profile and sports-consumption patterns. Designed to meet their real needs, the innovative new TVA Sports offering will include digital-only sports newscasts. TVA Sports will also be enhancing its programming with even more live sports coverage while continuing to air its flagship evening shows, Dave Morissette en direct and JiC.

As TVA Sports executive producer Louis-Philippe Neveu explains, “Over the past few years, we have seen sports fans’ consumption habits changing, and the pace of this change has accelerated during the pandemic.

At TVA Sports, satisfying our subscribers has always been our top priority. That’s why, from now on, we will deliver sports news where the fans are, while adding more live sports events to our programming.”

Unprecedented new digital offering from TVA Sports
TVA Sports is setting itself apart by transforming traditional sports news bulletins into a 100% digital offering, including something never before available to sports fans: daily sports news podcasts. In addition, the channel will be offering a series of other podcasts on subjects of interest to sports fans, including many in-depth interviews and exclusive reports, so that fans can get their sports news when and where they want. TVA Sports will also offer a wide range of sports highlights, videos and complete results on its website, tvasports.ca, as well as on its app and social media.
Neveu adds, “Nowadays, most sports fans go to digital platforms for their sports results and sports news. Their expectations are clear: they want their news live, and they want to be able to hear and watch interviews, highlights and videos at the time of their choosing. That’s the future, and TVA Sports is determined to be part of it. We’re listening to our fans’ needs and offering them content in their own image – young, dynamic, mobile and eager for innovation.”

Live events at the heart of TVA Sports programming
By making this ambitious change, TVA Sports will also be making more room for live coverage of sporting events such as Montreal Canadiens and other National Hockey League games, Montreal Impact and other Major League Soccer games, the Euro 2020 soccer championship, and Major League Baseball action. And TVA Sports will be making more additions to its live programming in the coming weeks. The channel’s offerings also include WWE RAW, RSEQ and U Sports university football, the Vanier Cup, WTA tennis, QMJHL hockey, CHL hockey, GYM, Eye of the Tiger Management, the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec, the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal and Red Bull Crashed Ice.

Plus TVA Sports flagship evening shows Dave Morissette en direct and JiC will serve up enhanced analysis of sports events and sports news. Along with their distinctive viewpoints, commentary and in-depth interviews, hosts Dave Morissette and Jean-Charles Lajoie will invite guests and experts to dig deeper into the subjects that Quebec sports fans care about.

“TVA Sports is already the channel that offers Quebec sports fans live coverage of their favourite sports,” says Louis-Philippe Neveu. “So viewers will be thrilled to learn that we will soon be adding other prestige properties to our programming.”

This shift will entail some changes to the TVA Sports team, including some reassignments, in order to meet the channel’s objectives.
