INTRODUCING FONDS MELS
$1 MILLION TO SUPPORT FILM PRODUCTION IN QUEBEC
MELS is proud to announce the launch of Fonds MELS, an assistance program for Quebec’s film production industry. The fund’s entire envelope – $1 million in its first year – will go to Quebec directors and producers of low-budget ($1.5 million or less) feature-length documentary or fiction films.
A leg up for movie makers
Fonds MELS will provide production support, including equipment rental, sound and picture postproduction and visual effects services, covering up to a maximum of 20% of the total production budget. “MELS has been supporting Quebec-made feature-length productions for years,” says Marie-Christine Jean, MELS Director of Business Development. “Fonds MELS is a way for us to become even more active in the local film community and to support both young creators and established professionals.”
In addition to the budget and format requirements (Quebec-made feature-length documentary or fiction film at least 60 minutes in length), applicants must have a contract with a distributor or broadcaster guaranteeing commercial distribution. The production must also be backed by at least one of the following institutions: Telefilm Canada, Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC), Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ), the Canada Council for the Arts, the Quebecor Fund or the Harold Greenberg Fund.
The deadline for applications is June 1, 2019. The required documents must be sent by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
More information on eligibility and required documents is available on the MELS website at mels studios.com.
